In an effort to make the capacitor of large capacity (Nanogate Capacitor) into business, JEOL Ltd. (Headquarter: Akishimashi, Tokyo, President&COO: Yoshiyasu Harada) (hereinafter: JEOL), Advanced Capacitor Technologies, Inc. (Headquarter: Akishimashi, Tokyo, President: Toru Usami) (hereinafter: ACT Inc.) that JEOL Ltd has established in April for the purpose of capacitor business, and Nissan Diesel Motor Co., Ltd. (Headquarter: Ageoshi, Saitamaken, President: Iwao Nakamura) (hereinafter: Nissan Diesel) came to conclude a feasibility study agreement for mass production and joint development agreement for early development of practical application technologies and agreed on tie-ups among the three companies on the capacitor business. Since the announcement in last October, capacitor technology of large capacity has been anticipated a lot from various markets. JEOL Ltd. and ACT Inc. have been studying widely on how to make the large capacity capacitor into business to respond to those anticipation, and have been working on the selection of business partner, based on the determination of the automobile market such as hybrid cars as first target. As a result, they came to judge that Nissan Diesel was the most suitable business partner since they evaluated the practical technology on cell and module, and the know-how on mass production high. On the other hand, Nissan Diesel has been considering sales of growing hybrid cars, environmental and space-saving instruments in other countries while taking business expansion in this field into eyesight, and resulted in judgment that business tie-up with JEOL and ACT based on the large capacitor technology was the most suitable, which has brought the three to this agreement. This joint development will aim at development of two kinds of practical and large capacity capacitors (*1) with emphasis on power density, for hybrid cars, and another with emphasis on energy density as replacement of cell(*2), plus module system including voltage control method. As for projected performance in the practical use, 15 to 30Wh/kg, which is about 3 to 5 times that of world-top level capacitor by Nissan Diesel, is the target for the time being. We believe that the accumulating system using capacitor of large capacity will make the various ranges of products into practice, and make great contributions to the world energy and environmental issues through the tie-up of the three. From now on, the companies will work on the details of sample product supply for practical application, mass production, and management structure of joint business by the end of this year. *1: For the usage that requires relatively
short period of time to charge and discharge, such as hybrid car. |
